Daniel Gonzalez, 20, faces a slew of charges after officers arrested him on Sunday, May 28, with a large-capacity pistol, Springfield police said.
Springfield police responded to a ShotSpotter Activation just after 9:30 p.m. near Malden and Grand streets. When officers arrived, they saw two men standing there who ran away when they spotted the cops, investigators said.
Police ran down one of the men near Oakland and Allen Streets and found a loaded large-capacity pistol with a pink handle beneath a car near where they arrested him, authorities said. The serial number had been defaced.
That runner was Gonzalez, police said.
He is charged with:
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
- Possession of a large-capacity firearm
- Discharging a firearm within 500 Feet of a building
- Improper storage of a firearm
- Arrest warrant (Probation Violation)
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public way
- Possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number
- Improper storage of a large-capacity firearm
No one was injured in the shooting, and there was no reported property damage. Gonzalez was arrested in July 2022 after police found him with a large-capacity pistol, authorities said.
